Pulmonary Medicine

The Department of Pulmonary Medicine is committed to establishing itself as a Centre of Excellence in pulmonary medicine, critical care, and sleep disorders, with a special focus on serving the Malwa region. Our vision is to deliver advanced, and cost-effective respiratory care that is accessible, ethical, and compassionate. With a strong emphasis on clinical excellence, evidence-based practice, and patient-centred care, we strive to set new benchmarks in high-quality healthcare delivery.

We manage a broad spectrum of respiratory and chest disorders, including bronchial asthma, allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), pneumonia, tuberculosis, pleural diseases, lung cancer, pulmonary hypertension, pulmonary embolism, pulmonary vasculitis, occupational lung diseases, interstitial lung diseases, mediastinal disorders,  sleep disorders, and respiratory failure.

The department currently offers an extensive range of diagnostic and interventional procedures, such as spirometry, cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET), six-minute walk test (6MWT), polysomnography, thoracic ultrasonography, ultrasonography-guided FNAC and lung biopsies, tube thoracostomy, pig tail and pleurX catheter insertion,  pleural biopsies, chemical pleurodesis, bronchoscopic BAL, TBLB, endobronchial biopsies, radial EBUS-guided TBLB, and EBUS-TBNA. We also provide advanced therapeutic bronchoscopic interventions, including foreign body removal, airway balloon bronchoplasty, airway stenting, and bronchoscopic closure of bronchopleural fistula (BPF). In addition, the department runs dedicated specialty clinics such as the ABPA Clinic, ILD Clinic, Sleep Clinic, and DOTS Centre, ensuring timely and holistic care for our patients.

Looking ahead, the department aims to further expand its services by introducing body plethysmography, DLCO testing, impulse oscillometry, fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO) testing, medical thoracoscopy, paediatric bronchoscopy, and rigid bronchoscopy. These additions will significantly enhance our diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities and strengthen our ability to manage complex pulmonary conditions.

Alongside our clinical mission, the department is deeply committed to academic excellence. We are actively involved in the training of undergraduate and postgraduate medical students and conducting research  in pulmonary medicine and sleep disord
