History

  • The Department of Dermatology, Venereology & Leprology started Outpatient services in 2019. At present, approximately 150-170 patients are examined every day in the OPD.
  • Inpatient services were started in 2022 with a bed strength of 15.
  • There are dedicated special clinics (Psoriasis clinic, sexually transmitted diseases clinic, connective tissue disorders clinic, Vesicobullous diseases clinic, Vitiligo clinic, Leprosy clinic) in the afternoon from 02:00 PM to 05:00 PM.
  • Dermatosurgery, Phototherapy, chemical peeling, patch test and many other facilities are available in the department.
  • Postgraduate course commenced in February 2022.

The Department of Dermatology Venereology & Leprology at AIIMS Bathinda offers a comprehensive range of diagnostic and therapeutic services designed to address a broad spectrum of dermatologic conditions. Our services are backed by evidence-based protocols, infrastructure and a highly trained faculty committed to excellence in patient care.

 

Clinical Diagnostics

  • Comprehensive dermatologic evaluation and documentation
  • Dermoscopic / Trichoscopic examination for evaluation of pigmentary disorder, hair disorder & neoplastic skin lesions etc.
  • Skin biopsy procedures are done for precise diagnosis.
  • Wood’s lamp examination.
  • Skin patch testing for allergic contact dermatitis to identify allergens.

 

Dermatopathology

  • Histopathological analysis.
  • Detailed clinicopathological correlation for diagnostically difficult cases in collaboration with the pathology department.
  • Advised special stains and immunofluorescence studies when indicated.

 

Newer therapeutic modalities

  • Availability of biologics, biosimilars and small molecules, therapies such as Rituximab, Adalimumab, Secukinumab, Ustekinumab & Tofacitinib, etc., for various dermatological indications.
  • Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) for removal of Wart, acrochordon (Skin tag), DPN, Seborrheic keratosis, etc., for precise excision.

Chemical Peels

  • Superficial and medium-depth peels for various indications, e.g., acne, pigmentation and photodamage.
  • Skin rejuvenation

 

Phototherapy

  •  Whole body Phototherapy- NBUVB & UVA both.

 

Dermatosurgery

  • Biopsy – Punch biopsy, Incisional biopsy, excisional biopsy.
  • Intralesional steroid injection

TELE CONSULTATION

  • Our department provides teleconsultation to the patients.
  • It is convenient to elderly, geographically isolated patients or when in-person visits are difficult.

 

COURSE/TRAINING

        Postgraduate training- 3-year course

  • Teaching schedule of PG includes: -
    • Seminars, journal club, clinical case discussion and spotters-once per week, academic ward rounds.
    • Conducting an internal assessment exam every 6 months
    • Clinico-pathological teaching activities: in collaboration with the pathological department.
    • Thesis progress report presentation every six months.
    • Rotational posting in other departments.
    • Log book maintenance.
  • Undergraduate clinical and theory classes are being conducted as per schedule.
