Institute of Nursing Education and Research (INER)
All India Institute of Medical Sciences was established by an Act of Parliament as an autonomous institution of national importance Under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana [PMSSY] similar to AIIMS New Delhi with well defined objectives and functions. By virtue of this Act, the Institute awards its own medical degrees, diplomas and other academic distinctions. The degrees awarded by the Institute under the All India Institute of Medical Sciences Act are recognized Nursing qualifications by the Indian Nursing Council and are deemed to be included in the first schedule of that Act, entitling the holders to the same privileges as those attached to the equivalent awards from other universities of India.
Institute of Nursing Education and Research, INER (earlier called Nursing College), AIIMS, Bathinda has been started in the year 2021. The Institute of Nursing Education and Research started its first academic session on 1st March 2022 with its first batch of nursing students with an annual uptake of 60 students. The admissions are conducted through the common National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (Undergraduate) For NURSING by the National Testing Agency (NTA). Other nursing programmes viz. M.Sc. Nursing, advance nurse practitioner and PhD programmes etc. will be initiated in due course of time. AIIMS Bathinda has state of art residential facilities for the faculty, staff and students.
Institute of Nursing Education and Research, INER believes that nursing courses should be planned around the nursing care needs of the society as well as catering to the educational and personal developmental needs of the learners. Nursing is an art and science that identifies, mobilizes, and develops strengths of the client through acquired skill, professionalism, knowledge, and competence supported by evidence-based practice. This profession is deeply rooted in the values to enable people to promote health, prevent illness.

The mission of INER is congruent with the institute mandate i.e. “we are committed to establish and augment excellence in nursing education, training, and research imbued with scientific culture, compassion for the sick and commitment to serve the underserved through knowledge generation and translation.
Vision
To build a highly competent nursing workforce including generalist as well as specialist nurses i.e. nurse clinicians, nurse practitioners, nurse educationists, nurse administrators and nurse researchers to meet the regional, national and global human resource needs for nursing care.
Aim
To ensure an equitable, cost-effective evidence-based quality nursing care for individual, family and community through innovative methods of quality education and grooming the clinically competent, research-oriented nurses.
Objectives
- To prepare nurses for holistic, evidence based comprehensive bedside and family care nursing, nursing supervision, nursing administration and leadership.
- To prepare clinical nurse leaders in acute and critical care nursing through fellowship in relevant areas.
- To foster innovative research that will benefit the humanity and improve the nursing standards
- To promote growth of indigenous nursing literature for improving nursing services, education and administration.
- To offer the short term/ in-service programmes, training and refreshers courses for the nurse clinicians, administrators, educators and researchers.
- Build faculty excellence in teaching, scholarship, practice and service.
Scope
The nursing students are expected to provide services to the indoor and outdoor patients in institute while learning. The nursing faculty and students serve the patients during the scheduled times in all the areas of hospital and primary health care set up and thereby contribute in meeting the health needs of the population. Education of the patient and relatives is considered as an important responsibility in achieving Sustainable Development Goals.
Extra curriculum activities - INER conducts short term refresher courses to enhance knowledge and strengthen the skills of nursing students and committed to organize Conferences, Workshops, symposium, Seminars and updates from time to time on a local, regional or national level for pre service as well as in service education. Organizing and participating in continuing nursing education events by various agencies will be an integral part of the nursing institute activities.
