Immunization Clinic

The Immunisation Centre at AIIMS Bathinda serves as a comprehensive facility for the delivery of preventive and post exposure immunisation services to individuals across all age groups. The Centre is actively involved in implementing the National Immunisation Schedule (NIS) and ensures the timely administration of vaccines to infants and children to protect against vaccine-preventable diseases. Routine immunisation sessions are conducted in accordance with the guidelines of the Universal Immunisation Programme (UIP), thereby improving childhood health outcomes and enhancing immunisation coverage. In addition to paediatric immunisation, the Centre provides adult vaccination services in accordance with national recommendations for eligible beneficiaries. The Centre also functions as a designated vaccination site for the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Vaccination Programme under the Government of India, supporting national efforts towards the prevention of cervical cancer among eligible adolescent girls.

The Centre plays a crucial role in the management of animal and snakebite cases by providing post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) through the administration of Anti-Rabies Vaccine (ARV) and Rabies Immunoglobulin (RIG), as indicated by national treatment protocols. It also provides Anti-Snake Venom (ASV) for the emergency management of venomous snakebite cases, thereby supporting timely lifesaving interventions. The Immunisation Centre extends specialised vaccination services, including Yellow Fever vaccination for international travellers. These services are complemented by pre-vaccination assessment, documentation, certification, and counselling regarding travel-related health precautions. Travel Health Services are also provided, including comprehensive travel-related health counselling and preventive guidance for individuals planning domestic or international travel. Integrated Counselling and Testing Centre (ICTC) & Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) Centre

The Integrated Counselling and Testing Centre (ICTC) and Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) Centre, inaugurated on 7 March 2026, provide comprehensive HIV prevention, diagnosis, counselling, treatment, and follow-up services in accordance with the National AIDS Control Programme (NACP) guidelines.

The centre offers confidential HIV counselling and testing services, early diagnosis, linkage to antiretroviral therapy, treatment adherence support, and preventive interventions. It also provides Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) services for healthcare workers and individuals following occupational or non-occupational exposure to HIV, including needle-stick injuries. Appropriate risk assessment, pre- and post-test counselling, timely initiation of PEP, and follow-up are undertaken as per national guidelines.

HIV testing is performed using the standard National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO) testing algorithm. Initial screening is conducted using the Whole Blood Finger Prick Test. Reactive samples undergo confirmatory testing using the COMB AIDS Test and HIV TRI-DOT assay before a definitive diagnosis is established, ensuring accurate, reliable, and quality-assured HIV diagnosis and patient care.

HMEL Mobile Medical Unit

The Mobile Medical Unit (MMU) is a collaborative initiative of AIIMS Bathinda and HPCL-Mittal Energy Limited (HMEL), established to improve access to quality healthcare for underserved rural communities. Under this programme, 59 villages across Punjab and Haryana have been adopted. Two fully equipped Mobile Medical Units regularly visit these villages, delivering comprehensive primary healthcare services at the community's doorstep.

The MMUs provide medical consultations, basic diagnostic services, screening for communicable and non communicable diseases, maternal and child healthcare, health promotion, preventive services, and appropriate referrals. Regular health education and behaviour change communication activities are conducted to increase awareness and encourage healthy lifestyle practices. Telemedicine support and a robust referral system facilitate timely specialist consultations and ensure continuity of care for patients requiring advanced management.

The programme is implemented by a dedicated multidisciplinary team comprising faculty members and resident doctors from the Department of Community and Family Medicine, medical officers, staff nurses, laboratory technicians, liaison officers, and support staff.

Cancer Screening Van

The Cancer Screening Van is a dedicated mobile outreach initiative of AIIMS Bathinda that brings comprehensive cancer screening services to communities, promoting early detection and timely intervention for common cancers. The programme focuses on screening for oral, breast, and cervical cancers, complemented by health education, risk assessment, counselling, referral, and follow-up of individuals requiring further diagnostic evaluation or treatment.

Oral cancer screening is performed through systematic visual oral examination, breast cancer screening is conducted using Thermalytix technology, and cervical cancer screening is carried out using colposcopy, with appropriate referral for confirmatory diagnosis and management whenever indicated. The initiative also emphasises community awareness on cancer prevention, early warning signs, tobacco cessation, and the importance of regular screening.

The programme is implemented by a trained multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals, ensuring quality assured screening, continuity of care, and timely linkage to specialist services. By extending cancer screening services to underserved populations, the Cancer Screening Van contributes to reducing diagnostic delays, improving treatment outcomes, and strengthening community-based cancer prevention and control.

School Health Initiative

The School Health Programme provides periodic health check-ups for students of Kendriya Vidyalayas to promote early detection of health problems, support healthy growth and development, and enhance overall well being. The programme adopts a comprehensive approach to child health, encompassing medical examination, anthropometric assessment, vision and oral health screening, nutritional assessment, counselling, health education, and timely referral for specialised care whenever required.

A key innovation of the programme is the development of digital health records in collaboration with IIT Ropar, enabling longitudinal monitoring of students' health status, early identification of risk factors, and seamless continuity of care. The digital platform facilitates evidence-based follow-up, supports preventive healthcare interventions, and contributes to improved health outcomes. By integrating regular health screening with digital health technologies, the programme strengthens school health services and promotes a healthier learning environment for children.

Community Outreach and Multidisciplinary Mega Health Camps

The Department of Community and Family Medicine, AIIMS Bathinda, conducts regular community outreach camps to improve access to quality healthcare, particularly for underserved and vulnerable populations. In addition, Multidisciplinary Mega Health Camps are organised quarterly, bringing together specialists from General Medicine, Community and Family Medicine, Dermatology, Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, General Surgery, Urology, Dentistry, and other specialties as required.

By delivering integrated healthcare closer to communities, the initiative promotes early diagnosis, timely treatment, and improved health outcomes.

The outreach programme extends beyond Bathinda district and has served populations across Punjab, including Moga, Amritsar, Fazilka, Ferozepur, Tarn Taran, Pathankot, and Gurdaspur. The department has also organised special healthcare camps in disaster-affected areas, including flood-affected districts such as Fazilka and Ferozepur, ensuring continuity of essential healthcare services during emergencies.
